It may be understandable for the public to credit the office of president with more power than the office holder actually wields. Although it is indeed an office with a great deal of power and responsibility associated with it, many people seem to believe that the president’s power extents much further than was intended by the Founders.

It’s abundantly clear in the Constitution and other founding documents that the president’s powers were intended to be carefully defined and quite specific.

While the president does indeed serve as the commander-in-chief of all U.S. military forces, is responsible for appointing numerous high-level cabinet members, nominates candidates for the Supreme Court and is endowed with other important duties, he is certainly not to be mistaken for a king or dictator. The whole story can be found at http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?topic=186389.msg1419266

The Founders were very careful to install a system of checks and balances within the structure of our government to assure that no single entity could be perceived as an authority which stands above all others.

Unlike so many other governments around the world, the office of The President of The United States is one that was carefully created to ensure a balance of power where no single individual is able to wield absolute and total autonomous control of the nation.

Perhaps you’ve seen a news item on television that has made you angry or concerned. Perhaps there is a particular political candidate you support. Maybe you just want a say in how the country is run. Whatever the reason, you’ve decided to become involved in the United States’ political process.

Getting involved in the political process isn’t difficult, but it does require some effort. First, you need to make yourself aware of the goings-on in the world around you. How can you choose positions on issues without being informed? This requires you to read newspapers, blogs and books, and to watch the news on television.

Next, you need to vote. Voting is the simplest yet most effective action you can take to cause political change. Choose candidates whose policies you support, and you just might see some of your desired changes enacted.

Finally, if you want to get even more involved in the political process, donate money or volunteer time to a candidate you support. By becoming directly and intimately involved in the election, you have the best opportunity to make your voice heard.

We all have a responsibility to try to make our country a better place. If you get involved in the political process, you have a chance to improve the lives of all Americans.More info here: Bolling Not Running for Governor

It is always funny how, in a land where we are supposedly free, people don’t always realize that they have more options than they realize. When it comes to a car, you don’t just have Toyota and Ford. When it comes to televisions, you don’t just have Samsung and Toshiba. When it comes to security systems, you don’t just have security choice alarms and Schlage. And, when it comes to political parties, you don’t just have democrat and republican. Unfortunately, in our highly simplified media world, it is all too easy for some Americans to get pigeonholed into that way of thinking.

Part of the problem is that the media typically only covers the two major parties, almost completely ignoring the other rising parties and candidates from each. However, when you get right down to it, who is that more of an indictment of? The major news networks with clear bias and agendas, or the people who willfully subject themselves to the one-sided arguments and coverage made by networks with clear agendas toward their respective parties. Sure, news and information reform are in order, but people also need to awaken to the fact that they are free to choose their parties, not just simply be presented the choices the media thinks they should have.

You may be familiar with the laws that govern your daily life, but it is often a mystery for some citizens to fully understand how these laws are created and introduced. With so many terms (bill, law, committee, Congress) the process can indeed be confusing, but in fact the way a bill becomes law it quite clear and methodical.

A bill, or simply a suggested law, can be introduced by any member of Congress (that is to say, either in the Senate or the House of Representatives). From there, the bill gets discussed in an appropriate committee where it is modified and voted upon. If the committee is in favor of the bill, then it moves to both the Senate and the House for debate. If either body rejects the bill, it dies in its current state. If the bills are approved, they go to a conference committee, which seeks to iron out any differences that may exist between the two versions. From there, the consensus bill is sent back to Congress where it is voted upon again. Once the bill makes it out of Congress, the President either signs it (and thus a law is born) or vetoes it.

Many people think that it is not important to vote, to take part in your local political campaign, and to simply “let other do the voting.” The problem with this is that if you do not vote and take part in local and state politics, you are not really doing your part as a voter, and therefore not contributing fully. When you take the time to brush up on your state and local politics you are going to discover that there are definitive reasons for elections and votes, and that by simply sitting and not voting, as many do, you are actually damaging the state and city that you live in.

State and local politics matter because your future is going to be at stake if something passes that hurts you, your job, or your family businesses. This is why it is good to take a firm stand and vote even if you only do it once in a while. By taking part in local state and area politics you are helping to make the world a better place one city at a time, and might end up loving the political field of your home town and state as well

In the current political climate, there is a lot of anger and frustration among the general electorate. On the left side politically, the prevailing argument is we need government to support and supply our needs. Whereas on the political right, they believe the government is meant to support the will of the people, not support the people. The formation of the TEA party as it is known was in response to elevated taxes levied against the American tax-payer. Taxed Enough Already is the slogan that the organizers use as the rallying cry for the movement that wants reduced taxes and less government intervention in their everyday lives. Many of the supporters also want less in the way of business regulations. Even though the TEA party doesn’t actually field any candidates corporately, they do support individuals who best represent their ideals. Unlike the Democratic or Republican parties, the TEA party is not a registered political organization; instead, it is comprised of individuals with varying political agendas. Many of the so-called members are in fact fiscally ultra-conservative people who believe the government spends too much money. As long as people believe that there are too many taxes, there will be a TEA party.

With the fate of our nation hanging in the balance, the Democratic Party is running on a few different platforms intended to provide stability and prosperity throughout the country. On the whole, democratic candidates are in favor of family values, health care, civil rights, social programs, job creation, new technologies, education, economic growth, and making sure that middle class Americans retain what they’ve worked so hard to achieve. Democratic leaders believe that a collective and concentrated effort in these respective areas can create a brighter future across the board, which is something that is desperately needed to move forward in times of uncertainty.

Informed voters are looking closely at these issues that can have a tremendous impact on the way things will be handled in the near and distant future. One of the most important issues facing today’s Democratic Party is the ability to put unemployed Americans back to work, which involves the latest technological advancements to implement reusable energy sources such as solar and wind powered devices. The nation’s infrastructure is in desperate need of a makeover; creating jobs to rebuild roads, bridges, and transportation systems is something that each and every member of the party wants to see for years to come.

The Republican Party is often viewed as a divisive group of moderates and extreme right conservatives. The recently formed Tea Party has done little to improve this view. However, there is certain unity among members of the Republican Party concerning the future direction of the country.

Republicans believe the role government should be more limited. The government has massively increased the regulations that businesses and individuals must follow. This has created a level of uncertainty and possibly hindered employment. Smaller businesses are simply hesitant to hire new people with concern over new regulations. Of course Democratic representatives refute this notion stating regulations help “level the playing field” and create fairness.

Taxes are another key issue Republicans will bring to the platform this year. Despite modest support for increasing taxes on the wealthiest, it is also the rich that own the businesses that create more jobs. The contrary opinion is taxes must be raised to deal with the growing federal deficit. Republicans are certain to raise the incredible size of the tax code with over 80,000 pages as an issue. It would seem every representative has used the tax code to reward contributors both Republican and Democrat. More simplified tax laws would aid large and small businesses. It is one issue that both parties agree.

The Republicans are about big oil, dirty air and dirty water. They have a war on women. Does any educated voter believe this is true? The political position of the Republican Party is for federal government to reduce spending and get out of the way of future success.
